Recuperating from his harrowing experience hadn’t been an easy process. He had tried to go back to work but he had a hard time working the crime scenes on his own. So he had requested a leave of absence and he had gone on vacation to Mexico to find rest and relaxation on a resort that offered a pleasant beach and cheap Coronas. Normally he despised the yellow-coloured beer but he had decided that it was either Corona or tequila. And since he was just there for rest and relaxation and not potential liver damage, he chose the beer. As his last week approached, he found himself joined by Sara. Neither of them spoke of Las Vegas or what had brought them together. Instead they focused on the sun, sand and surf that the resort offered. Together they became closer to one another and they found the necessary peace of mind to return to their jobs.
“Why are you here?” Nick finally asked on their last day at the resort.
“I guess it’s for the same reasons as you, to put my demons to rest.”
“You don’t have any demons,” Nick replied.
“Not like you, but my past and my obsession with Grissom were affecting me and my ability to do my job.”
”Oh,” Nick said at a loss for words at her openness.
“I’m back to the old me, the one that Grissom put his faith in,” Sara said quietly as she looked away from him.
“That’s really good.”
”I don’t want a relationship with him, other than a professional one.”
”Really?” Nick asked before he took a long drink from his beer.
“Yeah,” Sara said before doing the same.
“I don’t know what to say.”
”I’m not trying to say that I want one with you instead. But I’d like to be friends,” Sara said with a self-depreciating laugh.
“I think that I can handle friends.”
“That’d be good,” Sara said as she smiled at him.
